Administration Assistant Role for ‘Hidden Figures of Plymouth’ project
 

WonderZoo is recruiting an Administration Assistant for the Hidden Figures of Plymouth project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The role will be 24 months in duration, starting from February 2023. The project aims to highlight historical and current day figures that come from global majority or marginalised backgrounds with links to Plymouth.

 

Our objectives for the project are:
 

-To build the project to be a platform for education, engaging students and the general public in learning about Plymouth’s hidden historical and current day figures from global majority or marginalised backgrounds.
 

-Engage both global majority and white audiences and work within the community of Plymouth.
 

-Forge links with relevant local organisations, such as schools, colleges, universities, community groups and historical societies.
 

-Develop a website, social media, Press Relationships and PR
 

-To help Produce alongside the Project Leader 2 Exhibitions, 12 workshops, 12 school/university talks, 12 talks at community events, 6 information tables at festivals, and 12 history walks over 2 years.
 

-Contact prominent figures from the global majority community of Plymouth in Arts, Culture, Business, Sport, Politics and Community to arrange interviews, with the aim of conducting 40 oral history interviews over 2 years, 20 minutes long, with each of these prominent figures.
 

-Create Flyers and posters, and support the project with social media posts.
 

- To help Produce alongside the Project Leader a printed booklet about the Hidden Figures of Plymouth, including writing, photos, scanned newspaper clippings, and other historical material.
 

- To help Produce alongside the Project Leader on creating a permanent pressure group over the two year period, to be started after the 2 year project is completed.

 

Qualities and experience required for the role:
 

-Passion for highlighting the achievements of people from global majority or marginalised backgrounds
 

-Work to the project aims and objectives, according to the Project Plan
 

-Taking notes and minutes for all meetings.
 

-Risk assessments.          
                           

-Sending out information.    
 

-Produce paper and online surveys
 

-Data analysis and presentation
 

-Databases – keeping track of work done, contact details, consent forms.
 

-Oral history transcriptions for each of the 40 interviews with living figures.
 

-To check and respond regularly to e-mails and other messages from website/social media.
 

-Booking venues.
 

-Assisting in arranging needs of workshops, talks, exhibitions and history walks.
 

-Support with social media posts.
 

-IT and digitally literate use of email and social media.
 

-Familiar with Plymouth.
 

-Understanding of the ethos of WonderZoo.
 

-Work alongside Project Leader on creating a permanent pressure group over the two year period, to be started after the 2 year project is completed.
 

-Must complete racial equality training from Plymouth and Devon Racial Equality Council.
 

-Supportive and friendly attitude towards Project Leader and Supervisor.
 

-If entering schools, must complete DBS check.
 

-Assist in keeping track of spending.
 

-Flexible Hours.
 

-Good time-keeping.
 

-Good communication skills with project team and stakeholders.
 

Admin Assistant Wages
 

£15/hr, 8 hrs/week = £120/week = £6240/year
