Lee Squires: celebrating Roma heritage through creativity

We’re over the moon to be working with Lee Squires on an exciting new project exploring his Roma heritage, culture and lived experience.

Through creative workshops and talks, Lee will invite participants to share stories, ideas and artwork in different welcoming spaces across the city. The project aims to offer insight into a culture often under-represented in the arts, challenge stereotypes and build greater understanding.

Emma from Mindful Art Club, Slain from WonderZoo and the Barbican Theatre will work with Lee to bring the workshops, talks, and a final community performance to life. The ideas and artwork created together will inspire a short play, written and performed by Lee, celebrating identity, resilience and belonging.

We hope this project will be the beginning of more opportunities to share the play with audiences in the future—and, with further support, develop it into a touring play

and much more.

This project aligns perfectly with our core mission to celebrate diverse, grass-roots storytelling and champion underrepresented voices in the South West.
