February 2023 Highlights

Hidden Figures of Plymouth project begins with two new recruits.

We have started our new two-year project, Hidden Figures of Plymouth, which aims to highlight and celebrate important figures linked to Plymouth, past and present, from global majority and marginalised backgrounds.

We are happy to welcome Rachel Hawadi as Project Leader (below left), and Jackie Wacha as Project Assistant (below right). We feel very proud and fortunate to have such experienced and passionate people running this important project and we’re excited to see how it progresses, with WonderZoo in the background helping and supporting.

Celebrate Respect Pop-up Exhibition at The Talk Shop

From 13th-18th Feb we showed photos, videos and booklets from the Respect Festival since 1998, with two racial equality training workshops delivered by Plymouth and Devon Racial Equality Council (PDREC). This exhibition was a chance to spread awareness about the importance of the Respect Festival and how it has been a focal point of multi-cultural celebration for Plymouth.

Memory Exchange History Group

We had two great talks as part of LGBT+ History Month.

Kevin Kelland (right), HIV activist, shared his personal story of living with HIV. Dr Alan Butler (left) talked about the Pride Archives of Plymouth.
